In-Situ Terrazzo
In-Situ Terrazzo is a composite material, poured into place, which is used for floor and wall treatments. It consists of marble, quartz, granite, glass or other suitable chips sprinkeled or unsprinkeled and mixed with a cementitious binder.
The terrazzo is cured and then ground and polished to a smooth surface. It is sealed with a chemical hardner upon completion. At PJ Ryan we store upwards of 150 tonnes of Italian marble and glass in a variety of colours & sizes. Upon request we can customize design samples for Architects/Clients until a preferred mix is achieved for the chosen project.
This service is free of charge.Pre-Cast Terrazzo
Pre-Cast terrazzo can be created in almost any shape and size depending on the complexity and application. These units are produced in our workshop and brought to site in a finished state and fixed.
This allows us to use the same mix in both In-Situ and Pre-Cast situations, so that an exact match is achieved when say matching pre-cast kitchen counters to an In-Situ poured floor.
This is particularily useful to Architects in order to achieve minimualists design.Polished Concrete
PJ Ryan use the HTC Superfloor™ method for grinding and polishing concrete.
The HTC superfloor method mechanically refines the concrete surface by removing the top cement paste and exposing the underlying stronger concrete. Polished concrete is created using HTC Superfloor, a process of concrete grinding and polishing using diamond tooling and specialists grinding machines.
The result is a glossy concrete floor with a completely even surface of a high quality both functionally and aesthetically.
Refurbishing Terrazzo
Using modern machinery it is now possible to repolish old dull Terrazzo Floors to a high gloss, easy maintainable finish.
Nails are removed or ground, holes filled, etc. Diamond Abrasives of various types and coarses are used. Water is used to minimalise dust. Once the drying process is complete, the final process or recrystalization can commence. This is a chemical process that seals the floor and creates a high gloss that is harder than the stone itself. This is a superior sealing method, than the use of acrylic sealers, which in our opinion, should never be used. -
In-Situ Terrazzo works are highly specialised in nature, requiring experienced workers with a keen attention to detail as bourne out in our legacy of projects.
